Wayne's Story
I am married and have four children. After WPDH I attended Mount Allison for degrees in Arts (history) and Education and then University of Florida for a Masters in History. Taught High School history for 3 years before entering Law School at Dalhousie in 1975. I graduated with a law degree in 1978 (top of class) and clerked with The Chief Justice of Canada for a year. I have taught law at Dalhousie University from 1979 --2017, in public law areas such as constitutional law and human rights and privacy as well as education law. I have also litigated some leading cases in disability and inclusion. minority language education and criminal law. . Mary's Rape Chant Task Force (2014) on sexual assaults on university campuses. In 1995-98, I served as Director of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission and from 2001-2004 served as President of Mount Allison University in Sackville N.B. After my Mt. Allison Presidency, I returned to the Law School from 2004-2017. I am now retired but still do writing and act as a legal commentator in many forms of media at local, national, and occasionally, an international levels.. In 2005 I received the Order of Canada and in 2008 was made a Queen's Counsel of the Nova Sc0tia Bar. In 2015 I received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from St. Mary's University. I have had a full and interesting life thanks to the support of my wife, family and friends and a lot of good luck and hard work..
