Welton's Story

Life Welton 1 at bellsouth dot net is nice to talk to when everything is scrunched together. Lets try the story wizzard thing: I always wanted to be a minister when I grew up. My family thought it was a dumb idea and that I was crazy. As it turns out, they were wrong. I do have a very bad temper at this point in life and I generally blow off steam by telling people exactly what I think, so not much has changed there. I like to relax by putting on ear phones, kicking my feet up and listening to Ernie Haas and Signature Sound on Youtube. The wildest thing I ever did in school was cut class. I prefer to have a quiet, peaceful, and content workplace to be able to deal with the day to day. If I had to say what my biggest surprise is, it is that I didn't expect to live this long but have and that I have been able to forgive those people in high school who were so cruel and hateful and move far above that point in my life. My biggest surprise is that I have discovered that teenage hormones are from Hell, the pits of Hell! Obviously, I have a teenager! I guess that is the one thing I can share that I have learned from my 6 boys and girl. Thankfully, my six boys live next door and I can send them home when they step on my last nerve. So far that hasn't happened. They come and go as they please. At least they now knock before coming in and stop at the living room. If you don't have the pleasure of having 6 kids ranging in age from 10 to 16 in the house at one time, you don't know what you are missing. I have written below about leaving Macon, so if I won $100 Million, I would pay for the new sanctuary at church, buy me and my wife matching Mercedes 500S sedans and get my daughter into whatever medical school she chooses. So far it is Mercer Med School, Georgia Medical College or Emory Medical School. the one big luxury i would get for myself would be an upper level motorcoach home to travel in and built myself a home in Newport Beach, California - one of my all-time favorite places - and build a small cottage in the north Georgia mountains. Now Wizzard wants to know if I ever lived in a dorm. Yes, I did. Old Peyton-Jacob at Ga Southwestern; Dorman, Brannan, and one other I can't remember at Ga. Southern. I left Macon for Georgia Southern earning a B. S. in Criminal Justice and never looked back. I did post-graduate studies in counseling and human development at Troy State University. I was a Deputy Sheriff in Jones County, Ga., for a brief period of time before going to work for the Ga. Department of Corrections 22 years ago. I was a sex offender specialist supervising sex offenders in a 6 county area in Georgia and 4 counties into Alabama until my retirement on October 01, 2004. The girl I loved in high school ran off with my DeMolay brother and I later married (after college) a wonderful woman to whom I have been married for almost 25 years (Dec. 17, 1983) - and happily so, well at least for me! So far, I have ...Expand for more
lived in Columbus, Macon, Statesboro, back to Coolumbus and then to Cataula. After high school, I had fallen in love with a wonder Christain lady when I worked at Sears, Kathryn McAmis - and I still have the last picture I got in my desk. We drufted apart when I went to college and she moved to Illinois and then to Missouri. I would love to hear from her to know how she is doing. Last I knew she lived outside Kansas City, Mo. I participate in a ministry called "The Carpenter's Workshop" devoted to repairing, re-building or building homes for widows/widowers/Veterans, and those displaced by catastrophic storms. One of my favorite parts of ministry, next to getting people's homes repaired/re-built, is doing wedding photography for young couples who can't afford to hire a commercial photography outfit. I am not working hard because I am retired; however, I am looking at the healthcare field for a new profession. I love the ministry in Hospice and would love to be certified in palative care. Wizard says I get one do-over and askes what I would do differently. Without a doubt, I would keep the brute honesty I was known for but would keep my mouth shut more than what I did. As for my oldest friend, that would be Paul, my roomate from college. We get along well because we respect each other's differences I love Sheltie dogs (2) and Siamese cats (3), and traveling the US with my most recent trips being to New York City and Orange, California. New York was the most fun and California the most beautiful! I would like to see some of the folks with whom I grew up but realize many of us have gone separate ways and become different people; however, hearing from and seeing some of the guys from the old neighborhood would be fun considering so many of them have now passed on from this world. School My best school experience was two-fold: 7th grade with Mr. Henry Lindsey and 10th grade with Mrs. Jewel Walker. Mr. Lindsey knew how miserable I was as a child and did everything he could to my my life better and easier, a major Christian influence in my life. Mrs. Walker was the person to whom I went when upset during high school. She convinced me I could go to and graduate from college despite being told differently by my senior high school counselor. She was right, and I did! Mrs. Walker taught Algebra and was my favorite teacher in high school. Like Mr. Lindsey, Mrs. Walker also was a major Christian influence in my life - a very major Christian influence. Workplace Burger King, Kroger's (my favorite), credit authorizer at Sears; insurance clerk; deputy sheriff; and ending with being a felony sex offender probation officer. How do I hope old friends will remember me? I hope people will remember me in the old English sense as being a terrible husband, a terrible father, and a terrible friend. In the old English sense, terrible means the ultimate of the best. Yes, Ms. Fults, I still love studying the etyology of words.
