Wendi's Story
After graduating in 1985, I couldn't decide what I wanted to be when I grew up so I dabbled in nursing, business and retail sales for almost 4 years. During that time, I took care of terminally ill children and adults; that was really hard.
Then I became the Director of Nursing, Health and Youth at the Red Cross in Battle Creek. That was when I met a group of people that did clowning for the local nursing homes, hospitals and other non-profit places. They convinced me it would be fun and sure enough it was. It definitely was not on my list of things I wanted to be when I grew up but hey, how many people get to say they were a professional clown?! Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking, Randy was our class clown. But I had to dress for the occasion, what was his excuse?! (j/k Randy) :)
I met my husband, Tim, in Colon, Michigan at the annual magician's convention and 7 months later, we were married. That was 19-1/2 years ago.
We moved to Texas in 1995 and lived there for 6 years. Then we...Expand for more
decided to sell everything and move to China.
China wasn't exactly love at first sight but it grew on us and so did the children there. So we decided to adopt a baby from there. Rosalee Jing was placed in our arms on March 1, 2004 at 11 months old. She is our pride and joy as well as a trial in patience and endurance.
When she turned 2-1/2 years old, we returned to China so she would experience the culture she was born into and be able to learn to speak Chinese. Now she is 7 years old, speaks 2 dialects, understands 4 dialects and is learning to read and write Standard Mandarin.
We are currently living in Ningbo, a 3 hour drive south of Shanghai and love it. It's a small town of just over 600,000 (a village really by Chinese standards) and it is very much still old China although the Western influence is creeping in a bit too fast for our taste or the locals for that matter.
We love the laid back life here, cheap living, travelling and wonderful food. Oh yeah, and the awesome shopping.
