Wendy's Story
Life
After graduating from PVA in 1982, I went to nursing school in Texas and graduated in 1984. I then moved to south Texas and married a Filipino classmate in Dec. 1984. I worked as an RN in the operating room and labor & delivery for 3 years. I had my first son, Sean, in 1986. We moved to Tacoma, WA for a year and returned to Harlingen, TX in 1988. I continued to work in the operating room of labor & delivery for the next 6 years. I had my second son, Ryan, in 1989. I was divorced in 1992 and moved to Denver, CO in 1993 where I am presently residing. I remarried in 1996 to my husband, Steve. We raised 4 kids for the next several years (I have a stepson, Kenny, the same age as my oldest son and a stepdaughter, Sabrina, a year older than my youngest son.) My son, Sean, moved back to Texas to live with his dad in 2000 and is now in his third year of college studying nursing. I miss him terribly, but we talk often and he comes to visit a couple of times a year. Kenny married at a young age and has a 2-yr. old daughter and a newborn (5-28-07) daughter--they live in Oklahoma. Sabrina is a sophomore at Union College studying Business/Accounting. Ryan got his GED and is living with some friends about 30 miles from home. I have worked part-time in the operating room for the last 13 years in various hospitals of the Denver area. My husband has worked at Ball Metal Container Corp. (mass production of soda pop cans) for the past 24 years. We live on 4 acres of land out in the country and love it. We have 3 dachsunds, a rabbit, and a salamander. I love Colorado and can't picture living anywhere else.

ation. What a great guy! I ran into him again in Denver, CO 10 years later. What a great time we had. He's now in Berrien Springs, MI. If I could do it all over again...yeah, I would. I have lots of wonderful memories of PVA and friends--it was a great time in my life. One funny time (wasn't funny at the time) was when my dear roommate, Gina Wooten, swore that she was going to make me look better by plucking my eyebrows. So, I trusted her. Well, she got a little carried away with the plucking to the point that I didn't have much left but redness and swelling. Well, I had to continue on with classes and work and I found myself at work with Mrs. Wolcott in the cafeteria. She was SO upset with me for allowing Gina to do this to me. In her motherly way, she warned me against ever doing such thing again. Believe it or not, I never did again until 20 years later! What an impact she had on me!
Workplace
I worked my first three years of nursing at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX (1984-1987). From 1987 to 1988, I was at a hospital in Tacoma, WA. I then moved back to Valley Baptist Medical Center from 1988-1993. From 1994-2002, I worked at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center in Denver, CO. I then worked at North Colorado Medical Center from 2002-2003. 2003-2004 was at McKee Medical Center in Loveland, CO. From 2004-2005, I was a circulating nurse and computer specialist for the O.R. at Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center, LaFayette, CO. I am now at the Orthopaedic Center of the Rockies in Fort Colllins, CO working 3 days a week. I think I'm finally ready for a career change. I have been thinking about Court Reporting or Forensic Nursing. Not quite sure when I'll be able to go back to school, though.
