Wes's Story
After leaving Cleveland HS I headed on down to Rolla to get my BSEE - I roomed with Greg Bischoff during my freshman year. I stretched out my stay at Rolla to five years, hoping to outlast the Vietnam War fiasco, as I had lucky draft number 30 - no cigar. I ended up signing up with the Air Force, as I'm more of a lover than a fighter. I spent a couple of years at the Cheyenne Mountain Complex in Colorado Springs; then a year or so in Wiesbaden AFB in Germany; and finally about six months at Castle AFB in California.
After the AF gig I signed on with Pfizer Medical Systems and maintained CT xray scanners for a couple of years in Pensacola, Florida and Mobile, Alabama. Then I came back to Mizzou in Columbia to work on a degree in Computer Science. Went to work for McDonnell-Douglas for nearly ten years before getting caught up in the massive (7000 people) layoff of 1991 when the DoD decided to cancel the Navy A12 program. ntract engineer. At some point Boeing bought out McDonnell-Douglas - in any event, I maintained my position there for thirteen plus years. I spent the bulk of my time writing software for the F15 central computer, flight control computer, and avionics unit interface computer - fun, fun, fun.
Most recently I've become a man of leisure as I was laid off in August, '09. I'm currently trying to figure out how to reinvent myself once again as my skill set is geared toward the Boeing culture and there's no company in St Louis quite like Boeing. Besides, my parents still live here in St Louis, as do my girlfriend's family, and my home is paid for. Quite frankly I'm not ready for retirement - either financially or psychologically.
I was married once for about seven years to a lovely lady from Cuba - my immaturity doomed that relationship. We did not have any children. I'm currently in a long term relationship with my girlfriend of twenty-five years - no children, just doggies.
I'm looking forward to hearing from any of you who are so inclined...
