William's Story
After SHS it took me 10 years to graduate from college. USC Columbia 66-67 (ask Dan Beauchene why I was put on mandatory study hall for as long as I chose to stay at USC) College of Charleston 67-70 (ask Buddy Wilkes why my conduct one night was considered "unbecoming a College of Charleston student", or ask John Frampton. We had a lot of fun, but I had difficulty in setting priorities, and virtually no self discipline. It's no wonder then that I failed to graduate and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers, but was fortunately able to get into the: USAF 70-74 where I really wanted to be an airplane mechanic,or anything that would keep me from going to Viet Nam, but Damn John Qualey and two years of Latin at SHS, I had enough foreign language aptitude to become a linguist. (I wasn't the only one...Expand for more
that lucky, Alex Moore and I ended up on the same plane, He was a Chinese linguist and I was a Vietnamese linguist.) I was married in 1970 divorced in 98 We had a bunch of children in between. I claim all of them, and their children as well - currently 5 grandchildren. But I digress, lived through the Air Force and the first 4 years of marriage and the birth of our first child, and living in different places. In 4 years we lived in El Paso, TX, the Presidio of Monterey, CA, San Angelo, TX, and Okinawa. They were all uniquely nice, but I was glad to return to Summerville in 74, and enroll at the Citadel, where having learned my lesson (finally) I studied hard, excersized self-discipline , and graduated with a BS in Business Administration (Accounting). I'm currently in Sumter, trying to retire.
