William's Story

Life Wow, in 4000 characters. Can't be done. I was never known for brevity. I was born, haha. Okay, just kidding. I retired at 57. Cops can do that. Most of the rest of you will be going to 65. Again, haha. After graduating from SJSU went into law enforcement. Worked for 3 different depts. for 34 yrs. But it was time to go, bad back now and I was in a young man's job. But living comfortably in my condo in Castro Valley. Divorced now after 18 yr. marriage, 2 boys. Most of you will remember me as chubby, but when I blew out my back in 2002 the physical therapy and changed eating habits made me go from 245 to 145. That seems to be my main hobby now, trying to keep the weight off. It is really difficult to do as an old person as I am sure most of you will attest to. Anyway, lived alone most of my life except for the 18 year miserable marriage. But again, stupid me, I would sure like to find that significant other. Is she out there? Wow, I went to my first "Little Big Game" after 38 years, I think. It was great fun, especially when our Samoan (things have sure changed?) team kicked the crap out of BHS. Gee, I thought we had a diverse school back in the sixties, but it is even more so now. Cool! School High school was one of my most favorite life experiences now that I look back about to retire. It was a lot of fun and now looking back I regret not being more involved with my school mates than I was. Strangely enough the adult figure that impacted my high school experience most dramatically was the Dean of Girls, Ms. Helen Kane. Though she doesn't know it, when she took me aside one day to give me a kick in the butt, I found her sermon most insightful. It was like a light bulb turned on in my head. Her talk inspired me to change my whole direction in high school. She made my high school experience quite fruitful and enjoyable. Thank you after all these years. Two o...Expand for more
ther things that bring amusing memories was being stuck with Mrs. Delores Henning for not only Soph. English but Senior English as well. Wow, all that reciting of Shakespeare and Chaucer, ugh! How silly, I still can't figure out the merit of all that. Am I more well rounded because of having to recite all that crap, no, I don't think so? And those 8 semesters of Spanish only because my Dad made me. Too much, but I did enjoy Peter Messner greatly, even though I was lost in his subject. College Whereas I have many fond memories of high school, I have little memory of college. It was not a high point in my life. Quite frankly, I was so glad to be done with it when I graduated, and to this day, I have no desire whatsoever to go back to further my education. But I do like going back to the campus every once in awhile to see how the places that I frequented have changed. It was and still is a pretty campus in an urban setting. Tower Hall is a great landmark to look at. But a lot of the places I remember have been torn down and replaced with something else. This has made college even a more distant memory for me. Workplace My work place, duh, all I can say is it is now a "bittersweet" memory. I stayed in police work for 34 years, wow, that sure seems like a long long time, but I must admit the years working did go by fast. To sum up, I enjoyed the first half of my career very much, but was quite thankful to retire after suffering the second half totally disillusioned and disappointed. I was worn out and didn't feel that accomplished much of anything in terms of making things better. Oh well, I feel good now. My time is my own. At this writing I have been retired for six months and I am at peace just doing nothing at all. Chilling out I suppose. Well, I believe I will eventually have a new "workplace" to talk about, but I am in no hurry........vegetating is just fine right now.
