Life
I was born; went to school and then in the US Army.
Then after getting out of the service, I believe I had about 18-jobs(all good ones), but finally settled in at the NP Ry., in St. Paul as a Weighbill Accounting Clerk.
I got married and divorced twice(1970-1975).
Since my father retired from the GN Ry.; all my brothers worked at the railroad, I tried it out. 2-blocks from the Region-2 office was Globe Business College, where I attended while working(ft) from 1970-72, and graduated with an AAS-Acctg. I had left the NP in 1971 and had a number of meanial jobs then in 1972 I hired on with the CNW Ry., but was furloughed, then the Milwaukee Road and was furloughed, but then Burlington Northern and stayed with them as a switchman/foreman/brakeman/conductor until I was offered a job in Alliance, NE(mean while being bounced about from Wisconsin to Wyoming/Utah). I quit and worked meanial jobs again. It seemed that I missed the cutoff on RR jobs by less then 2-yrs from holding a permanent job. In 1978, I met my wife(Mary of 28-yrs), we were married in Apr-1979.
In 1978 I landed a great job with a little rr called the Mpls, Northfield & Southern Ry. I worked there for 3-yrs then they were bought out by the SOO Line, 1980, and again I was out of the rrb.
I fell back on my accounting and worked a ft-day position
for Capitol Supply(lrg plumbing supplier)in St Paul at
Pharo's Data Center as a staff accountant. I also worked a 2d job as a billing clerk-pms/pt. In 1981, I went back to work for the Chicago & North Western Ry., until my rr career came to a close in 1987.
In 1983, we moved from W St Paul, MN to Randall, MN. I commuted to the Twin Cities from 83-87. During the last year 1986-87 I worked very little and decided to go back to college and get my 4-yr degree in Brainerd at BCC. I
had no idea what I was going to do but I'm sure it would be enoungh to make a living. I was disapp...Expand for more
ointed with the amount of credits that tranferred: Out of 142-cr from accredited out-state colleges/univs, BCC only accepted
40 and PE. What do you think happened next. . .
I went to work for a retired Navy plumber, 'Bud's Pump
Service,' in Brainerd. I accepted the position of Business Mgr and stay there from 1987-89, the last 3-mo in 89 pt.
I had been given a pt position as Jailor at the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Dept., also in Brainerd. It started off pt(40+ hrs/wk). I was hired ft in Dec-1987.
1987 was a particularly bad year: end of my rr career, the death of my sister Carol(48-yrs old) in Feb., and then the death of my mother(76)in July. I was close to
them, but G-d called them home. My father preceeded them in 1966. I still had my 3-brothers.
In 1988 I worked on my MN Post License(Police), and was sponsored by the Pequot Lakes PD. I became licensed the same year. I went back to school again, and also worked apart time patrolman job in Perham, MN on the weekends.
I decided try to get a degree in Criminal Justice and get out of line work into administration. I received my BA-Public Admn in 1993, and an MS-Criminal Justice in 1994. Due to my involvement in Dept of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics, I was asked to stay as an Adjunct
Professor(nc), which I did for four years.
1993 was a disasterous yr. While copping pt, I receive a blow(felt like someone poked me in the eye)that crushed the ethmoid membranes which necessitated 3-painful surgeries and eventually the loss of all my teeth. But the worst was yet to come. . .
In Jan-93 my father-in-law passed away. Len & Marion were my wifes parents and truly treated me as there own son. He was my mentor in many ways. My 2d surgery was in
Mar-93. In Feb, I was offered the Jail Administrator position in Watonwan Cty(St James, MN), a really good job but had to turn it down due to medical problems. After the 2d surgery was finished, so was career. . .all of it.
Then I rec'd my SS/Army pension and volunteer with the juveniles at MNCF-SC for 5-yrs. Thank G-d
