William's Story
Life
After graduation from St. Mary's high in Phoenix Arizona in 1982, I joined the Navy (enlisted nuclear power). I was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station just outside of Chicago. Then I spent a year in Orlando Florida studying nuclear power theory. That was followed by 6 months of prototype duty in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Finally I was stationed on the nuclear powered cruiser USS Truxtun (CGN-35). The Truxtun was based in San Diego - a very nice place to live. The Truxtun is now Toyota parts and Razor blades, as are all the other nuclear powered cruisers. I saw the world and was discharged in 1988.
I studied engineering at the University of Arizona. Met a very nice girl on the first day of classes that I will never forget.
I got married in 1994 to a wonderful woman from Taiwan. The cultural differences are proving to be a challenge.
In 1997 I Received my M.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering. I am now employed by the commercial nuclear power industry. All is going well except that I live in a bitterly cold climate in the Northeast. I very much hope to land work back in the Southwest.
Our twin son and daughter were born in 2004. They are unbelievably cute as you can see from the photos in my profile.

My son is quite the little terror around the house. The other day he raided our refrigerator and removed the Mayo, a bottle of c...Expand for more
hocolate syrup, red wine and hot sauce. He decided the colors of our oriental rug were too bland so he introduced these items to the rug and proceded to finger paint. The rug will never be the same.
He also likes to open the floor heating registers (air ducts) and drop things down inside. Funny. I haven't seen my wrist watch in about a week.
Workplace
Following graduation from the University of Arizona I landed a job as an engineer for the commercial nuclear power industry. I started in licensing, but found it was not my nitch as my ability to articulate words is not the best. Better for lawyers.
Now I work as a neutron nerd for the Fuels group. I monitor reactor exposure parameters and am slowly learning to work with core physics codes to learn core design. Holy Cow!! I only wish I would have paid more attention in college. Life would be much easier now.
I am working in the North East part of the country. I hope to one day work in the South West at one of the plants in California (i.e. San Onofre or Diablo Canyon) or perhaps Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station just West of Phoenix. The summers can be a bit grueling in the South West, but it beats -20 F and 200 plus inches of snow annualy. The worst thing around here is the food. I cannot find any decent Mexican food here! The local's idea of Mexican food is Taco Bell.
I really miss Arizona!
