Here is a quick summary of my life since high school..
I was sitting at home one day, and a friends mom calls up asking me if I was still not taking school seriously. I said, "no". Ended up minding the computers at the Houston office of Deloitte and Touche for four years.
Wanting to go back to school, and thinking a 40 hour a week would be a good idea, I went on to Compaq. Working 40 hours a week bored me out of my skull.
I mentioned that I was bored. Three months later, the person whose younger brother I mentioned this to got me transferred up to sunny Redmond Washington (on the East side of the lake from Seattle). One of those opportunities from hell. I would get to be the engineer...Expand for more
ing liason to Microsoft. No one to back me up, no vacation, no raise, and no time off for two years. It was the opportunity from hell (literally).
After two years, I stayed. Could not see going back to Texas other than the occasional visit.
So, this company that could not make a calculator to save its life any more, and sold a bunch of ink buys out my employer. I finally caved in to friends and went to Microsoft. Never regretted it. Could not score a layoff package from Compaq. Saw other people beg for them, and get them. Need to work on the sales angle a bit more for future reference.
Microsoft is a great place, and I am having the time of my life here. Should have come here a long time ago.
