William's Story
Seems like just yesterday since we shared those years at old Floyd County High. I went directly into the Navy after graduation. Traveled a lot (by sea) and ended up making two cruises to Vietnam, during the war. That wasn't a lot of fun but I made it back and visited a lot of interesting places. Came back to Virginia and settled down after a couple of years of being very restless. Married Reeta Gail Hylton and we have 3 daughters and 1 son. All except one still living in Floyd County.
I worked as a carpenter for several years and in 1980 I went back to School. I received a BA degree in Vocational Education in 1985. Was a salesman for a while and then I began my first teaching assignment at Floyd County High...Expand for more
School in 1987. I taught there for 7 years and then in 1995 I went to Radford high School where I taught until 2001 and I took early retirement and have been retired every since. I stay busy gardening, researching geneology and just enjoying every day I have left. For all of you who have been gone from the County for a long time, please come back on a Friday Night and see what has happened to Downtown Floyd. You will still recognize the one stoplight but it will be alive with music and people from all over the country and world. Remember when the whole town closed down about dark? It's not like that anymore but the small town atmosphere is still alive and well. Just more people and more places to go in town.
