Bill's Story
Upon graduating from Norwood, I attended the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, earning a BS in Economics, Magna Cum Laude. I met my wife, Joanne, there and married at graudation. I joined the Olin Corporation and worked a total of fifteen years in their Chemicals Group in five different sites rising to head Human Resources for a 6500 employee business. Our first daughter was born in Louisville and our second in Taunton, Massachusetts.
I worked the last eighteen years of my career in New Jersey for the Engelhard Corporation (since acquired by BASF) as either the head of a Division Human Resource function or, for the last twelve years, as the company's Vice President, Human Resources with worldwide responsibility. Our older daughter is a graduate of Lehigh and is a CPA living in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Our younger daughter graduated from Vassar and teaches English in a middle school in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. We have five grandchildren, two boys and three girls.
I retired at age 55. We built a home in Hilton Head, South Carolina where we live and enjoy retirement.
My chief interest in retirement is making music, singing and playing guitar--mostly country and old rock. I play in a band with two ladies and three guys and am told we make some pretty music, sometimes even for money. I do some teaching and Chair the board of our local water company. I also play some tennis with friends and observe and think about what is happening around me. And, of course, we spend time with family and friends. Life is good.
