Bill's Story
Life
Did a stint at Whiteaker Middle School for almost a year, remember seeing Andre the Giant at this theater/wrestling arena that's prob gone now..the roller rink of course and one of the best pizza places I've ever eaten, had a middle ages theme to it's pizza's. There was also a hamburger joint out by a drive-in movie theater that had awesome burgers. Lost my yearbooks to both here and the following school...really bummed about that. Faces you remember, names fade away it seems.
Attended Box Elder High School for 1 year, when I was a Junior in Brigham City, Utah, Go Bees!
Since 1982, when I graduated at Chamberlain, South Dakota after doing my first half of the year at Todd County High School, I worked at Harry K Chevrolet etc in Chamberlain, then as an EMT-A for Brule county. In 1986, I entered Haskell Junior College, I was on my way to graduating with honors in accounting, when in my 5th semester I became disabled with Polymyositis, I continue to live in Lawrence, KS fully disabled, I can walk, but not for long, hobbies now are online chess, poker as well as flight simulators on the computer. But main hobby was until our car broke down, was storm chasing, I was a Certified Storm Spotter for Douglas County Kansas... Have some cool pictures of a tornado out near Manhattan, Kansas that I caught on a chase, multiple vortice. Experienced tennis ball sized hail at night near Leavenworth, Kansas....very scary, was at night! Not the time to storm chase! Haven't had a car for about 5 years now, so been unable to chase...but still follow it all online. Also last year Lawrence was hit by a tornado, luckily, no one was hurt badly, was about a 1 1/2 miles to the west of my apt. So since '88 when I became disabled, things haven't really gone my way career wise, but there was a 20% chance I wouldn't make it 5 years... So I am happy to be alive! If anyone reads this, can you somehow let me know what happened to Nick Swalley? Last I heard in 82 was he was in the Army (82nd Airborne) and did the Grenada Rescue, saw him one time on leave, tried to get to his sister's place by Rosebud during an ice storm, ended up sliding into the ditch while trying to make it uphill on the backroad, the gravel was okay, but when it went west towards the dam, it was paved and very icy...was about a nice couple mile walk sliding do...Expand for more
wnhill on pavement, walking in ditches uphill..lol, boy was I tired, he of course had no problem :) . kittnmeister (at) yahoo (dot) com hope that works and I don't get booted, honest try for a po' person to find out about any of my old friends back in Mission as a kid/teen. Although, sadly I wouldn't want to live there again, too many bad memories..but there were good times too, a lot more than the bad. A small town is a great place to grow up...no serious worries like now in the cities. And of course, I HATE rap! Probably changed the slang language from our time in high school. LOL, small town kids talking about homies and shorties..gettin' jiggy wit it. ya know what I'm sayin'? I hate that last part, especially when people say it after every sentence...ugh. A bit of an update here now in Feb, 09..back from the po' person sentence. Been 20 years with the disability now..going to be 45 in March..time does go quicker as you get older, less to look forward to seeing I guess, I do want to see what Pluto, now a "Dwarf" planet looks like..2015 or something like that. Yeah, I obviously watch a lot of science programs on the different discovery channels and the learning channel.. a show on string & brane (membrane) theory was trippy. Wonder of any Todd County alum have become physicists..hmn. But now, mostly working on my Computer chess account in the Internet Cheaa Club trying to reach a rating of 4000 (at 3907 and had a high of 3940) unofficially the highest rating ever achieved on that club, unofficial because I didn't develop the program that plays the game, do a search on transwarp chess, it will explain better, I do contribute to it's high rating by making opening books to keep the Grandmasters at bay. For those familiar with chess players, it has beaten GM Gata Kamksy often #1 or 2 in the US. as well as GM Hikaru Nakamura, also a top US player..possibly has beaten GM Magnus Carlsen #3-5 in the world..suspected of being behind a certain ICC account anonymous. Another top 20 person in the world is GM Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan. Yeah, REALLY into chess..lol. Anyway...as you can see it's pretty boring being disabled and pretty much homebound..so live your lives to the best, one step at a time. Life is fragile, we are here just a nanosecond of time if you think about it..use it well and for the good. :)
