William's Story

After graduating from Cathedral Latin School, went to the University of Maryland. Graduated in 1973 with a BS in Education/Natural Science. Taught Science and other things at St Mark's form 1973-74. Married Rebecca Pierce of Wheaton, MD in Dec, 1974 at Holy Rosary Church, Washington, DC. Taught at St Mary's in Rockville, Feb 1975-June 1976. Continued to play liturgical folk music at different parishes around DC area. First son, Joseph, was baptized at St Jerome's in November, 1975. Had a band (Gibraltar) with Skip McCloskey and high school friend Jerry Gaddis from 1968 through 1980. Daughter, Elizabeth, was born in 1977 and baptized at St Columba, Oxon Hill. Second son, Marco was born in 1980 and baptized also at St Columba. Played in a number of bands in the area from 1980 through 1990. Began playing mandolin with the choir for Italian liturgies at Holy Rosary from 1981 until leaving DC in 2007. Played across DC area specializing in several types of ethnic music, including Carmichael Auditorium, the Potomac Celtic Festival, the Shenandoah Music Festival, and the We...Expand for more
st Virginia Country Fling. All three kids were in a professional dance track, the two older graduated in dance performance from SMU and the youngest from MCC and then the Florence Design Academy (Italy) in Industrial Design. All three are married, and we have three granddaughters and one grandson, living in NYC, Dennis, MA, and Sausalito, CA. Taught Science for Howard County Public Schools from 1976 through 2006. Also worked at the state level on development of the MSPAP, and professional development for Science teachers at local, state and national levels. Was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate in 2006 through Archdiocese of Washington. First assignment was Holy Rosary (DC). Was put on-loan to the Diocese of Fall River, MA in 2007, assigned to St Pius X Church in South Yarmouth on Cape Cod. Built a lab-based Science program and a competitive golf team for the school. Also continue to play music both secular (The Anti-Ques) and liturgical, and am involved in various levels of community action. Are planning to return to Washington within the next two or three years.
