William's Story
Life
Hey Everyone! I am currently living on the East Coast of South Florida and have been for the last 14 years. After graduation from St. Mary's I went on to Branford High and after graduation in 1989 I moved to Boca Raton, Florida. I graduated from college in 1997 and I am currently working as a Registered Nurse in a mental health facility. I'm in a comitted relationship with my partner Russell, he works as a CPA in Ft. Lauderdale where we have decided to make our home. We took the plunge and exchanged rings on Christmas Eve 2002. We are living in house not far from Russell's job and are currently working on remodeling the house and making it our own. Life is good.
School
After Branford High, I moved to Florida and took a year off from school. In 1991 I started college at Florida Atlantic University, in Boca Raton. After only 3 semesters I quit and entered into the world of work. That didn't last long and I soon discovered that my paychecks were only taking me so far and the jobs I had did not offer very much satisfaction. I started back to school in 1995 and very quickly realized the value of education and the benefits of knowledge. I became a Registerd Nur...Expand for more
se in 1998 and have worked in the mental health field for most of my career. The mind can be very interesting when you are on the outside looking in.
College
I went to a small community college for Nursing school. It was one of the best experiences of my life. For 3 years I was with the same group of 100 people all with a common goal, an education in Nursing. The sense of fellowship, belonging, and friendship I felt as a Nursing student follows me through each day of my career.
Workplace
I work in a small private Psychiatric Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I work the night shift as I always have during my career. 7pm to 7am is my favorite time to be at work. The whole world is much quieter at night. I work Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 36 hours a week and have a long weekend every weekend. This is the beauty of a flexible 24/7 profession. We treat patients with mental health as well as substance abuse problems. I prefer mental health over addiction and really enjoy working with patients who have thought and mood disorders. I supervise the staff on my shift and spend alot of time training and educating other nurses. It's all in a days work.
