William's Story

Life As some of you may remember, I was rather involved in the craziness of the 60's, after Rich Giardino, Micheal Colombo, and Andre were involved in a car chase for possesion of a couple of joints, Rich was shot dead. With all the craziness of the drug scene and hanging out in Manhattan quite a bit at the Fillmore East, and at SUNY selling acid and hash, I had a slight epiphany and started learning how to make fine jewelry and cut gems at a small shop across from the train station in Stony Brook. A gentleman named Russ Baker owned a fine store there called Ecolin. After spending two years with Russ and going back to get my diploma ( busted for grass, hash, acid in Senior year and expelled ) I spent more time in Manhattan, this time learning about gems and diamonds andjewelry manufacturing. I went to NYU Fashion Institute for a few classes and other specialty certification schools GIA ( Gemological Institute of America ) and took on managing some stores in Port Jeff, Rocky Piont, and Setauket called Guy's and Doll's with someone who is still a good friend today EddieRosenberg.Russ and his wife Linda bought a new location at the ferry in P.J. at the Lighthouse shopping center still called Ecolin. I decided to move to California after a heartwrenching breakup with Pat Kiefer and had a great job waitng for me in Carmel, with a great house on the beach waiting for me in Santa Cruz. Paul Sparrow, friend from Bellport was living there and going to Santa Cruz University of CA. Had a great time in Santa Cruz ! Got even better at making jewelry, and met a very cool woman who had grown up living all over the world and also going to UCSC at a party at our house. Fell in Love and we moved in together. Meanwhile, I had contacted Michael Colombo and Sal Mendola, another jeweler and friend from PJ. We moved to a huge house with an attached large shop way up in serious 'Hippie Country" on Highway 9 (in the Santa Cruz mountains) and proceded to establish a very successfull wholesale...Expand for more
jewelry company. Unfortunately drugs were still a major part of the scene and Michael became seriously addicted to cocaine. I decided to take up an offer from another friend and move our operation to Maui Hawaii. This was a dream come true for me, Julie my future wife, went to Washington DC upon graduating, and when I asked her to join me moving to Hawaii, she agreed and left the wild world of lobbying ( National Wildlife Fund ). Maui was everything I dreamed it would be. We lived in an old school house out on the Hana Coast without electricity, solar, wind and raincatchment systems, worked in Lahaina, partied and surfed and swam naked at Makena. Met tons of very interesting people, did the yoga, veggie, spiritual thing and made exceptional jewelry for many high end shops, meeting and making jewelry for people like Stevie Nicks, George Benson, Walt Frazier, George Harrison, Johnny Carson and many other celebs and such. We ended up living in Maui for 8 years. Julie and I finally decided to get married and her family was originally from the SF Bay Area, so we did our wedding in Saulsalito, many old friends including Pat Kiefer came, and my brothers Rick and Randy and parents also. In 1984 I took on of those 'Personal Development' ESt type classes. really enjoyed it actually and ended up going to work for the company, called PSI World Seminars, as an instructor/facilitator. Went to the top of the company quickly and became the COO . Moved back to MArin County in SF, CA. to run the west coast, Japan and Hawaii and then took an opportunity to go to Las Vegas to open a new office. Running out of space here. so...In 1997 opened my own management consulting firm Quantum Leap Leadership and have been very successful working with large corporations on the West Coast, which is what I am presently still doing. I have 2 great sons, Colin 16, and Alec 12 and am still happily married to Julie. Get in touch ! I ran into Jimmy Young on the beach Big Island once. Love to u All, Chuck
