Tomas Wm's Story

I attended West Allis Central High School in my Sophomore and Junior years and Wautoma High School in my senior year. Big city or small, I met some extraordinary people back then, who through this site and of course F***book, have reconnected with many of you. SO ... in no particular order .... Currently living in Chicago and working as a flight operations manager after some years as a flight attendant.. Long story about how THAT happened, but now in my 9th year and still loving it. Divorced in August 2015. Relieved. Very relieved. Proof that same-gender marriage allowed me to be equally as miserable as any of you! LOL Went to Florida State University and University of South Florida. Lived in Florida most of my adult life, with stints back in Milwaukee and in Atlanta most recently before settling in Chicago in 2013. I was able to indulge my love of music for a number of years as a real, honest-to-goodness singer. I had the great honor of working with some of the best vocalists in the business (I won't name-drop here; by all means ask me!) and also worked singing jingles for commercials, background vocals for recordings and whatever could produce a paycheck at the end of the gig. Loved every minute...Expand for more
of it. Had colon/rectal/testicular cancer in 2002-2003. Surgery, chemo, radiation. Took me out of the music biz for a while (and ultimately, for good) but having gone through the experience, you appreciate what you do have a helluva lot more. I made it. I was lucky. Plain and simple. Have my masters in Psychology and worked for 15 years in acute and emergency psych settings but as many of you knew way back when, music was always my first love so I am doubly lucky to have been able to indulge in all the things in life career-wise that were really important to me. Survived disco, big hair, styling mousse, the scourge of AIDS. Watched literally half my colleagues and friends die within a 6 year span of that plague. Again, I made it unscathed. Sobering. It is practically inconceivable to me that its been 40 years since we were all goofy, gawky teens at WAC and WHS, trying to find our way into the big world. Looks like most of us made it just fine. Hard to believe that some of us have left this world already but that is the "circle of life" as that famous karaoke song says .... The "fat kid" did okay. Wishing all of you the very best in your lives and careers, family and extended family. We made it.
