William's Story
Dear St. Juliana classmates;
I attended Notre Dame H.S. in Niles from '67-'71. I then went to NIU from '61-'65 and '65-'67 graduating with a B.S. and M.S. in Geology. I continued at the U of I in Champaign-Urbana and completed a PhD in Geology in '71. . My focus was on volcanic rocks and I did my field work in Yellowstone Park. I spent the next year as an Asst. Prof. at the Univ. of Hawaii doing research on Mauna Kea volcano on the Big Island. I then spent the next 45 years (!) at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. My research continued to focus on volcanic rocks and how to use them in the study of continental evolution. I retired two years ago, but continue doing research on the Greek Is...Expand for more

At NIU I supported myself by working as a cook for a sorority and married one of them. In fact today (7/27/2020) is our 52 wedding anniversary Our first child was born in Honolulu and the second and third were born in Atlanta. Now we have two grandchildren, who are a great joy.
Thankfully, my research has taken me to interesting volcanic regions around the world. I have also worked and lived in Norway, New Zealand, and Greece for extended periods.
I often wonder what my classmates are up to. I do know that Lawrence (Larry) Paul and William Kamin (Kaminsky) past away about three years ago. Any information about John Harold, Judy Hamilton, and Loretta Weins?
