William's Story
I want people to remember the 1968 Base Ball team.If you have looked at the year book it shows a picture of a man in a cow pasture swinging a bat , nothing else . No team no names nothing. Do you know in the history of Ferrum this was the most successful team they had to that date. The first time Ferrum made the book of winners. We won the eastern regionals and went to Grand Juntion Colorida for the Nationals BaseBall champion ship. I want you to know the names of the players I can rember. John Penn, first base, Ralph Owens, second base, Gary Findley, short stop,Skipper Williams, third base,John Turner, left field,Kelly Russell, center field, Duke Clary, right field,Ron Richards ,catcher and Bill Thompson ,pitcher. I love BaseBall and have played all my life.this was by far the best team I have the ever played for. It was like the book...Expand for more
s thought you to pitch. You don't have to strike them all out. You just keep the batters of balance so they can't hit the ball hard and the team does the rest. If there was a man on first make the batter hit the ball on the ground and it was a double play. This team never missed a play , I have never played for a team that was so good. They could have stood there ground with any team. And we get a picture of a man in a cow pasture with a bat , nothing else. I think something should be done. At least put the names of the players in the trophy box. Rember the first baseball team to make the record books science they have been keeping them. Remember we did not have a coach. We did that ourselves. We did have a shavarone to Grand Junktion. He thought he was the coach, I think that's why we lost in the finals. He should have stayed home.
