William's Story
Life
After getting my Associates Degree from Nassau Community I found a wonderful wife who turned my life around. We met while I was working as assistant manager of a 7-11. She is the one who said the magic words: "You can do better than this!"
And so I did...
I spent 17 years as a restaurant manager for Friendly's Ice Cream. My proudest moment was receiving an award from New York State for hiring the handicapped. Later I took the opportunity to switch fields and began a career in their Information Systems Department where I did computer support for 820 restaurants.
Work in I.T. eventually brought me into the commercial laundry field where I was employed as the manager of the uniform division for Angelica Textiles in Hempstead.

ed, I had two daughters, Heather who is married and currently working in the New York Court System. My younger daughter, Amy who graduated from St. Joseph's College, took her Masters Degree in Library Science from CW Post. She passed away in 2018 from breast cancer. At the time of her death she was the Young Adult Librarian for the Bridgehampton Library.
I am still living on Long Island, although I moved out to Suffolk County in 1972. I am retired and enjoying and exploring every day.
My advice to all: "Do not let the good people disappear from your life." I never have and it has been the greatest blessing of all.
Here's hoping that everyone that I knew while at OHS has gone on to accomplish all they wanted to in their lives!
