william's Story
After graduating from Grant I went across the street to Valley College. Dropped out after 1.5yrs. Worked odd jobs and finally joined the Navy to beat the Draft, haha. Spent most of my time on the USS Ogden, LPD5, off the DMZ between North and South Vietnam in landing operations. I made E4 and was rated as a Shipfitter (welder, sheetmetal, fire fighter). 1970, worked odd jobs like UPS, went to Mesa and Miramar Colleges. Married March, 1973. Had a girl and boy. Bought a house in Encinitas, Ca. Was hired by the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District in Feb, 1975. Made Captain in 1980. Divorced 1986 and remarried 1988. Had two more kids, a boy and girl and moved to Carlsbad, Ca where I've lived until recently. Retired from the fire department Dec, 2009. Now live in Oceanside and work part time in fire prevention. Will soon be divorced again. Oh well, that's life.
