Winford's Story
I had 2 months left in the 11th. grade,when my dad moved us from Torrance to Bakersfield. I thought my life was over. To think I was leaving the beach, pike, Lions drag strip, and Banning. I left home the 1st. day of the 12th. grade. Worked for a newspaper, and went to night school for 18 months. Went to a mechanic school for 1 year. Then had training at General Motors, and at Volkswagen Training center in St. Louis Mo. Then I was off to the races. Worked all over the U.S. for 6 years. I was following in my dads foot steps. I was trying to find my self and the end of the rainbow. Never did find either one. Stopped being a nomad. Put in my own Garage and Body shop for 24 years. Then the Air Force Base in my town closed down, and my exwife thought my clothes would look better on the front holly bushes. Just kidding, I did not have any holly bushes. or me, I did not smoke, Because I would have had to stop. Have been married 2nd. time for 18 years. Have a wonderful wife. Sure am glad women like to help us hopeless men. Was in the Limousine business 11 years. Sure was proud when I got 1st. limo. But one of the happiest days of my life was when I sold the last limousine and waved good by. Like the old saying, all that glitters is not gold. My wife and I have a party & Wedding business and a Banquet Hall. Great business. All these guys think they are going to ride off to happiness Ha Ha I look back to the 50's and 60's , they were magical years. I was pretty much a nothing in school. But was glad just to be part of going to Banning. To stand out front of the school and watch all the sharp cars cruise by. Would like to go to the 50th class reunion, before I go to the happy hunting ground. Good luck to all. Winford.
