Winnie's Story
Life
Hi!
I'm living in L.A., teaching acting and singing, and writing musicals. I'm currently coaching a well-known celebrity on a popular TV drama. (LL Cool J on NCIS LA). We have now been working together for over 12 years. I also specialize in teaching professional child actors (but coach adults too) and prepare them for auditions for TV, films and recording careers. I have an acting class on Reddit (r/actingclass) and lots of videos on YouTube. You can find me on Facebook, Reddit, YouTube and TikTok.
I studied opera in Philadelphia and had a lot of opportunity to sing professionally there, and then moved to New York. I did quite a bit of acting and singing in musicals in NYC, which required a lot of touring around the country but later decided that the life of a teacher better fit my family life. I still perform whenever I can. I was in a couple of movies and TV shows and did a lot of TV commercials for many years. I have also spent many years directing musical theater and Shakespeare workshops, here and in New York. I'm teaching musical theater workshops in Europe too. (Check out my website - winnie-hiller. This allows me to travel to wonderful places like Paris, Rome, London etc. I'm also writing songs and musicals with my sister, Kristi (Rickert) Peterson, who recently moved from San Diego to Arkansas so I'm traveling there to visit often.
I have two beautiful children: Dora, who is thirty three and a successful model, musician and actress, and David who is twenty eight and has been an actor all of his life and is now an incredible musician/producer /...Expand for more
DJ. They have both appeared often in TV and films. David is a drummer and recorded an album at Capitol Records when we was a teenager. He now has an album of electronic music being released on London’s RAM records. Dora plays bass and sang in a folk indy group that also did some wonderful recording and performing and she is working in the TV/film industry as well. I'm very proud of them both as you can tell.
My parents moved often in my childhood and have now both passed away. Still I remember all of the schools I attended fondly. I learned so much at each of them that helped me to do what I do today. I did my first musical at Greenwood Jr. High School (In Clarksville Tennessee), and The Midland Center for the Arts was such a great training ground, in Gilbert and Sullivan, TMI, and the Midland Choral. Midland High's Choir and Glee Club were also great (State Champions!). I have especially fond memories of my Midland voice teacher Gwendolyn Pike, my Greenwood choir director Mrs. Schmidt, Midland High's choir director Roger Holtz and Enoch Estep from the Midland Chorale. There were lots of great experiences at the Methodist Church in Midland and the Baptist church in Clarksville too. USIU was a brief but memorable time and The Academy of Vocal Arts was a wonderful training ground for my present career.
I would love to hear from any of my friends from the past. Looking through my yearbook, I remember so many of you fondly, even though we haven't kept in touch. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. Let me know if you're in L.A.! (updated 2021)
