Yvonne's Story
After graduating from Sitka high I didn't do much except work at low paying jobs. When my oldest was 5 I was accepted into a grant project called the, "Native Americans in Communication Disorders," training program. The program provided funding to Native students to train to the masters level in speech language pathology. It was located at Washington State University in Pullman, WA. I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Language Pathology in 1990 and a masters degree in the same profession in 1994. by boy. We decided that I would be with him and I did get to see him get through Juneau schools. He graduated in May of this year. My daughter had 2 girls who are 21 and 18 already. The 18 year old graduates next May. Our lives have flown by and soon the grandchildren will graduate from college. I hope. I will be 64 on February 22nd next year. It doesn't seem like it. We enjoy putting up food and I still love to read and write. I am learning how to draw. A very ordinary life. My family and I have lived in Juneau, AK for decades now and it seems like we will stay for the time being.
