Yvonne's Story

Life I started out in first grade at Siverly Elementary school(I wonder if it is still there). I did not want to leave my Mom home alone so every chance I got I left school and went home. This was all much to the chagrin of my sisters. Especially Patsy. She had to finally sit in on my class and make sure I stayed in school. But, all is well that ends well. I became accustomed to staying there. Then, when I was going to go into 5th grade, my Mother made a discovery. One of the teachers she had when she went to school (St. Joes.) was there again. So, what did she do? She took me and my older sister, Nonie, and plunked us into the Catholic School. I am the one who got the older nun. She was Sr. Anselma. I was even put back into 4th grade just so I could have her. I was not a happy camper, leaving all my friends at Siverly behind, but I learned to love Sr. Anselma and settled down. I really loved St. Joes. Especially after I got into High School and met Sr. Alice. WOW! That woman rocked!!!! I loved her and considered her my best friend, next to Ceil. Sr. Alice and I corresponded until her death. That was a major blow in my life. After graduating in 1954, I worked at the Oil Well Supply Co. US Steel and met my husband there. Actually, I had met him at the Roller Skating Rink at Hasson Heights earlier, but he didn't see me for dust. We fell in love and married in 1957. We had 3 children in Oil City before moving to Garland, Tx. It was alright in Tex. but I sure missed my family in Pa. We stayed there 3 years and then moved to New Mexico. I went to work in Los Alamos, NM, while Larry worked at the Los Alamos National Lab. We and our 3 kids, went camping a lot and had a lot of fun. Larry starte...Expand for more
d going out to Las Vegas for his job a lot and things broke down in our marriage. With him being gone 5 days a week and me raising our children. Sad to say, our marriage broke apart. I stayed in NM after all the children married and when my youngest daughter (who was in the military) needed me to help with her baby I went. I have been with her ever since. It has been quite a journey the past few years. Since she was a devoted soldier, I have been blessed to live in Germany for 3 years. While there, I was privileged to visit, France(wasn't impressed), Holland(visited Anne Franks home(3 times), Italy(I heard and saw Pope John Paul, speak and say mass), Chechoslovakia (sp), and Brussels. One of the Highlight is when I went to St. Francis of Assisi's Shrine. There is a nest in his hands with a white dove(alive) in it. It is said that there is always one there. When we came back to USA, we moved to Colorado and have been here ever since. I started a Daycare and did that for many years till my gand-daughters got older. Then I went to work for the Public Middle School where they attended. While my daughter worked I helped her raise her girls. I consider it to be a privilege and never a chore. My oldest, a son, lives in NM and is married with a son, 23, and twin sons, 9. My older daughter, lives in Nebraska and has two adopted sons. They are Eskimo Indians and adorable. As for me, I am retired now, enjoying life and still living with my daughter. I would love to hear from my classmates and anyone else who would like to write to me. I promise to always answer. Love to all and God Bless You. School I went to Siverly Elementary School, St. Joseph's Grade and High School, in Oil City, Pa.
