Dominique Margaux Dawes (born November 20, 1976) is a former Olympic gymnast. She graduated from Gaithersburg High School, in Gaithersburg, MD, in 1994. Her senior yearbook states, “Balancing her schoolwork and her athletic career, Dominique exemplified the model student.” Gymnastics kept Dawes understandably busy, but she still got to experience high school life and was elected prom queen in her senior year. She made it onto the U.S. women’s gymnastics team for the 1992 Olympic games – where she contributed to the team’s bronze medal – and was honored in a school pep rally that fall. Four years later, Dawes was a member of the dominant “Magnificent Seven” (the nickname for the U.S. women’s gymnastics team) at the 1996 Olympics. She helped earn a gold medal for team competition (the first ever for a U.S. women’s gymnastics team) and also brought home a bronze for floor. Dawes returned to Olympic competition in 2000, where she contributed to the U.S. team’s bronze medal. A ten-year member of the U.S. national gymnastics team, she was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2009.
