Paul's Story

Paul is from St. Loius, Missouri. Paul's schools include Parkway Central High School. Paul later attended University of Missouri (Forestry) , University of Northern Colorado (Nursing) , George Washington University (BS Nursing Anesthesia) . Paul also has a Masters in Human Relations for University of Oklahoma. Paul works(ed) at United States Army, United States Air Force, Madison Anesthesia Services, P.a.. I went to Mizzou summer of 1971 and received a draft number from the lottery of 69 which led me to joining Army ROTC. I joined Sigma Chi fraternity and eventually graduated with a forestry degree and a commission in the US Army as a Field Artillery officer. I did the artillery training at Ft Sill, OK then off to Chakmakli, Turkery for a year as a security platoon leader. I returned to Ft Carson in Colorado Springs and separated from active duty May 1980. I went to University of Northern Colorado and began the nursing program in 1981 (was a runner and into holistic health and stress management) and graduated in June 1984. I switched my Army reserve commission to a direct commission with the US Air Force, married Pam Hodge and headed to Travis Air Force Base (AFB) in California. From there we went to Washington, DC where I went to George Washington University to get my degree in Nursing Anesthesia and did my clinical training at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. I graduated in 1990 and became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) going to Williams AFB, in Chandler Arizona, Our son was born there January 1992 and we moved from there to Offutt, AFB Nebraska after they closed Williams. We were there where I was promoted to Major and then given my choice of Korea without my family for a year, or separate. We decided to move the family to our place in Dubois,Wyoming while I spent a year at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea. Our follow on assignment was for 4 years at Landstuhl Army Medical Center which was a wonderful experience. We traveled extensively and I had the chance to travel to Baku, Azerbaijan with a US State Department team for delivery of medical equipment. I was also there for the support of the operations in Kosovo, Serbia and there for our troops from Kobar Tower bombing as well as the bombing of the American Kenyan Emba...Expand for more
ssy. We returned to the US in 1999 assigned to Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and headed for retirement 3 years after "pinning on" my rank, Unfortunately, the US was attacked 9/11/01 and I headed to Muscat, Oman and Jacobobad, Pakistan to provide surgical anesthesia support with a team of 7. I was there from 20 Oct 01 to 21 March 02. I returned and retired from active duty 31 December 2002. My wife had received numerous degrees and masters finally landing in teaching. She moved to Rexburg summer 2002 to begin teaching near there for her first job. My son began middle school at the same time and I arrived after retirement to take a position with Madison Anesthesia Services, P.A. I subsequently became a partner in 2005 and President in 2007. I passed the torch to another partner 2012 and continue to "pass gas" and love every minute of it:-) Unfortunately, my wife of 28 years decided to leave me and file for divorce January 2012 with our divorce final in October 2012. Fortunately I am still healthy, running and practicing my holistic health and stress management so I can deal with the stress of life and I still "pass gas." My son is a senior at Boise State in Political Science and Accounting and we had our first post divorce family get together attending a Boise State Football game in September with before game meals, after game dinner and Sunday morning brunch which all of us enjoyed. So life is still wonderful and the future is whatever I want it to be. I have not spent much time in the Midwest except to visit family. I have to say I do not like humidity and love the mountains. My retirement place in Dubois will have to wait as I still love my job and the friends I have made here in Idaho. I am planning on coming back to St Louis on occasion, mostly to see my fraternity brothers who I have kept in touch with. The only other Parkway graduate from 1971 who I have kept up with is my best friend, Mike McCullough who is living in San Diego, California. Hope this update finds you healthy, happy and following your dreams. Paul's interests include Running. Music Paul likes includes Pandora.
