Daniel Irvin “Dan” Rather Jr (born October 31, 1931) is an American journalist. He graduated with the class of 1950 from Reagan High School in Houston, Texas. In high school, he was part of the Glee Club, Newspaper, Lettermen Club, and was involved in football all four years. His senior year he was voted as class representative and as sergeant at arms and was voted a Mid-Term Favorite by his class. In 1950, Rather burst into the scene as a reporter for United Press. Soon after Rather began hosting radio stations as a reporter and a play by play announcer for the Houston Buffs. It was not until 1959, when Rather began his television career as a reporter for KTRK-TV an ABC affiliate news channel in Houston, Texas. He is best known for his role as television anchor for CBS Evening News, 60 Minutes, and 60 Minutes II.
