Jason Francesco Schwartzman (born June 26, 1980) is an actor and musician. He attended Windward School, in Los Angeles, CA, where he was involved in student government. Schwartzman got an early start as a performer. He became drummer for the band Phantom Planet in 1994, before he could drive. His first acting gig, the starring role in Wes Anderson’s Rushmore, came along when he was only 17. As his acting career started to gain traction, he made the decision to turn away from Phantom Planet (although he returned to music in 2007, starting the solo project Coconut Records). After their first successful collaboration, Schwartzman has frequently worked with Wes Anderson and has appeared in The Darjeeling Limited and The Grand Budapest Hotel, among other films. Other acting projects include the films Shopgirl and Saving Mr. Banks and appearances in the series Freaks and Geeks and Parks and Recreation. Schwartzman continues to utilize both his musical and acting talents. In one notable example, he starred in the HBO series Bored to Death, for which he also composed the theme song.
