Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1970) is a singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She graduated with the class of 1987 from Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, New York. Carey’s career was launched in 1990, with the release of “Vision of Love” from her first album. She has put together a long string of hits over the years, including “Emotions,” “One Sweet Day” (Billboard’s “Song of the Decade” for the 1990s), and “We Belong Together” (“Song of the Decade” for the 2000s). One of the best-selling music artists of all time, Carey is well-known for her five-octave vocal range. In 2012, VH1 placed her second on its list of “100 Greatest Women in Music.” Carey has also acted occasionally, with well-received roles in both Tennessee (2008) and Precious (2009). In 2013, she was a judge for season 12 of American Idol.
