Melissa Ann McCarthy (born August 26, 1970) is an actress and comedian. She attended St. Francis Academy in Joliet, Illinois. In high school, she was a class representative, was on the tennis team, and played the English handbell with a school ensemble.
Perhaps best known for her leading role in the sitcom Mike and Molly and for her Academy Award-nominated performance in the movie Bridesmaids, McCarthy’s first major acting role was in the series Gilmore Girls, in which she portrayed Sookie St. James. McCarthy continues to be a popular box office draw, with roles in Identity Thief, The Heat, Spy, The Boss, and Ghostbusters, among other projects.
