Since the pandemic interrupted any 50 year anniversary reunion for the Class of 1970, I thought we would try the Belle Isle venue. Moreover by extending the invite to 1968, 1969, 1971 and 1972 we might gather our classmates during the 1970 classmates time at Laura F. Osborn. So try to spread the word and I will try to utilize other social media to advertise as well. In order to keep the gathering real simple, plan to bring your own food and beverage, a picnic. I do not plan to purchase a liquor license even though Woodside Drive is on the other side of the Island. lol. The 8E shelter (8 East) is part of the Bath Lunch Shelter on the beach side of the Isle, Riverbank Road. There are picnic tables under the strong old structure. 20 amp. electrical circuit outlets, restrooms, built in grills, ample open grass area adjacent. There is an unloading area next to the structure with street parking across the one way street. The reservation fee is paid for. As the State of Michigan manages and patrols the Island as a State Park, I was informed that access will require the purchase of the annual State Park pass for $12 and available with the annual Vehicle Registration renewal. If it is purchased at the gate it will cost $17 for Michigan plates, $12 for out of state plates. In addition to our gathering there are many attractions and improvements being made on Belle Isle. It was recently announced the Conservatory will be closed for restoration through 2023 and others may be also. Please refer to the State website for other information. The real attraction will be to visit with classmates/teammates. Hope to see you whatever the weather may bring!
